【Josh Bartrug先生のスピーチ原文】
Perhaps you have heard the rumors, or maybe you have been in one of my GI classes, but, it is true, at the end of the month, I will be leaving Sagano and returning to the United States. Starting in August, I will be teaching English literature to Freshmen (First Year) students at a high school near my hometown in Oklahoma. It has been an honor of a lifetime to be able to work here at Sagano High School. I would like to thank all of the students for being so welcoming to me, for working so hard, and, of course, for speaking with me in English. Even now, my Japanese is not very good, so thank you.I would also like to express my deep gratitude to all of the wonderful staff here at Sagano, who have helped me in so many different ways, both personally and professionally. I have learned so much about how to be a good, effective teacher here, as well as how to be a good person.I have many things I would like to say, but my time is short, so I will wrap it up with one last thing. Most of you had to take GI class. Remember GI class? What is the main question of GI class? "How to be a good global citizen." I had to answer this question, and I found it very difficult, until I had a realization while taking a short trip to Hiroshima. The question is so big, but the answer can be small. For me, to be a good global citizen, you need to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Everyone has their own individual and different talents and abilities. Everyone is their own individual person. I believe, to be a good global citizen, you need to first be true to yourself, follow your heart, and simply be a good person. Changing the world starts small, it starts with yourself, so I encourage everyone to find what makes them unique and let that flourish.Once again, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the students and staff here at Sagano High School, as well as the people of Kyoto, Japan. You all have made me feel so welcome, and I am honored to have been able to spend and share a part of my life with all of you. Thank you.
